Sonali Pay UK Limited is an Authorized Payment Institution (API) under the trading name SonaliPay in the UK. SonaliPay is a 100% owned subsidiary of Sonali Bank PLC, Bangladesh. The company was initially formed on 28th April 2022, with a view to becoming a standalone authorised remittance entity to provide service for the UK based Bangladeshi diaspora. SonaliPay received its authorisation from Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) on 15th June 2023 following a successful application with its own unique reference number (FRN) 977519 which is listed on the FCA Financial Services Register.
Sonali Pay UK provides Remittance Services, including bank transfers to accounts in Bangladesh from the UK. Beneficiaries also have the option to utilize cash pickup services at over 1220+ branches of Sonali Bank PLC across Bangladesh. Furthermore, customers can seamlessly send money to Bangladesh, directly to bKash and Nagad accounts UK through our mobile app or web platform.

Md Shawkat Ali Khan

Md. Shawkat Ali Khan joined Sonali Bank PLC on 30th October 2024 as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for a 3-year tenure. Prior to joining SBPLC, Mr. Khan served as Managing Director of Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB). Formerly, he also served as Deputy Managing Director of Rupali Bank PLC. With a distinguished career spanning 26 years, Mr. Khan is renowned for his vision, dynamism, commitment, and innovative ideas. His journey in the banking sector began in 1998 when he joined Rupali Bank PLC as Senior Officer.

Mr. Khan is highly experienced and motivated with a proven track record in the banking industry, showcasing strong leadership skills, strategic planning expertise, and excellent communication abilities to achieve organizational goals. During his extensive experience, he has refined his skills and demonstrated an exceptional ability to become an iconic leader and eminent banker.

Mr. Khan was awarded by the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance for his dedication, contribution, and all-out cooperation for the formulation of Govt. Employee House Building Loan (GEHBL) Policy with the collaboration of all state-owned commercial banks.

Mr. Md. Shawkat Ali Khan completed Bachelor's and Master's degrees in chemistry from Jahangirnagar University and an MBA (Major in Banking) from Dhaka University. Moreover, he is a Diplomaed Associate of the Institute of Bankers Bangladesh (IBB). He has participated in numerous training courses, seminars, and workshops both locally and internationally. He has a multidimensional experience through visiting countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and India.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Khan is a committed philanthropist involved in various humanitarian activities. Born in Tangail in 1970, he enjoys traveling, swimming, and reading books as part of his hobbies.

Independent Non-Executive Director (iNED)

A seasoned emerging market banker and ex-United Nations staff member, Steven is currently the Founder and CEO of CircALERT, the first company to digitally capture, AI categorise and auto-distribute emerging market central bank updates. Steven started his career on the graduate programme with Barclays Bank in 2001 before moving to Standard Chartered Bank in 2008 and ultimately becoming Global Head, Public Sector & Development Organisations where he and his global team built and maintained the relationships with Supranationals, Central Banks and NGOs. On leaving Standard Chartered in 2016, Steven became treasury advisor to the International Organisation for Migration (UN Migration Agency) before returning to the banking industry with Crown Agents Bank. Joining 6 months after CAB’s acquisition by private equity, he was part of the new management team hired to stabilise the bank before defining and executing a new strategy that ultimately led to Crown’s successful Initial Public Offering on the London Stock Exchange in 2023.

In addition to executive roles, Steven has fulfilled a number of non-executive and advisory board positions. Steven is currently a trustee/board member of Microloan Foundation, a microfinance institution with presence in Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa, and was previously:

Masum Billah

CEO & Executive Director
Mr Masum Billah appointed as a CEO & Executive Director on 28th April 2022. He has 25 years of banking experience with a strong focus on risk operations, including technology. He previously worked at Citibank, N A Dhaka, Bangladesh before moving to the UK in 2010. He was regional compliance Head of Trade Business for Citibank U K and Bank of America, UK before joining Habib Bank Zurich PLC London as their COO (SMF 24) and Executive Director (SMF 3) to the Board He also led the rolling out of Islamic Banking window for Habib Bank UK. Mr Billah has knowledge and experience of UK local laws, rules, and regulations.
